The open source market place
There is almost nothing that does not exist on the open source market: web sites like sourceforge show the variety of open source offers. However, are all components good because they are open source? We think: they are not. According to our experiences, good open source projects are characterized by
- ... an active community
- ... an open development and testing process
- ... a realized peer review culture
- ... long-term maintenance constancy
How to find the correct components within this market place? How can open source help to find solutions for technical problems within your own industrial project? How can open source be perfectly commercially applied? To answer these questions many experiences derived from the daily use of open source technology is required.
We at Pengutronix know both aspects: the industrial project business as well as the open source community. We share our experiences and together with our customers we determine the optimal selection of components for their project.
