Pengutronix at Electronica 2024 in Munich

Electronica trade fair in Munich, Germany is just around the corner and Pengutronix is currently gearing up to showcase some of our latest topics and developments. You find us in Hall B4 Booth 102 (map).

Ever since, we have focused on tackling challenges in Embedded Linux development. To showcase some of our most recent efforts we will be presenting tech-demonstrators for the following topics:

Updating with RAUC

Safe and robust updating of devices in the field is important. Especially since regulations like the Cyber Resilience Act make regular updates mandatory.

At the same time, keeping control over the tools used in products is important, too. This is where our open source updater RAUC comes into play. It is the building block that runs on your device and gives you the freedom to implement the delivery of your updates to your needs.

Open Source Graphics on the i.MX8MQ

Pengutronix has many years of experience of bringing drivers for NXP's i.MX series of microprocessors into mainline Linux. One of the highlights of this work are our contributions to the Etnaviv graphics driver. This driver allows to use the Vivante GPUs in many i.MX CPUs without a closed-source component and thus leveraging all the possibilities of open source.

In this demo we present a graphics demo based on the i.MX8MQ with mainline Linux and Etnaviv.

Rockchip with Mainline Linux

Hardware vendors like NXP, ST Micro and Texas Instruments are well established players on the market of industrial embedded Linux. But in the recent years the rising newcomer Rockchip established a foothold in this market, too. For a few years, we have been working on mainlining drivers for these CPUs into Linux.

With this demo we will show the state of the mainline support of Rockchip.

Testing Embedded Linux on your Actual Hardware using Labgrid

Today, regular releases of software are the norm. In order to ensure the reliability of each release, automated tests are therefore a natural choice. The open source project labgrid provides a toolbox for automated testing of a complete embedded Linux on the actual hardware.

And here comes our spin-off Linux Automation into play. Founded in 2019, Linux Automation focuses on the development of electronics and devices around embedded Linux in general and also embedded Linux testing in special.

Our interactive labgrid -demonstrator showcases how to run integration tests for a complete embedded Linux on real hardware - and still make it as easy as pure software-testing. The demonstrator is build around the LXA Test Automation Controller and the USB-SD-Mux.

Embedded Linux in yor Switching Cabinet?

Another demonstrator will feature the Fairy Tux: Linux Automation's switching cabinet top-hat rail Linux controller that fulfills all your wishes.

With this device Linux Automation want's to explore how small a useful embedded Linux device for a switching cabinet can actually be. The device fits into an European home switching cabinet and plugs onto a top-hat rail. It can be powered either using 24V or PoE and provides an RS485 and CAN interface. On the inside a STM32MP153 CPU and 512MB of RAM are waiting to bring some magic to your switching cabinet.

FrOSCon 2023

In ein paar Stunden beginnt die 18. FrOSCon an der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. Pengutronix ist wieder mit einem kleinen Team vor Ort. An einem der Partner-Stände zeigen wir wieder einige unserer Aktivitäten in der Open Source Community. Dafür bringen wir unseren labgrid Demonstrator und die FPGA Demo mit.
